Postdoctoral position in Gravitational Wave Instrumentation at The University of Western Australia

The University of Western Australia node of the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre of Excellence in Gravitational wave Discovery (OzGrav) is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position (Academic Level A) on instrumentation for gravitational wave detection.

Our current research is focused on developing advanced techniques gravitational wave detectors. We operate the Australian High Optical Power Gravitational Wave Research Facility at Gingin, with 80m suspended high finesse cavities. Our research program includes the control of parametric instability and optimal mode matching for advanced detectors and silicon optics in high power cavities for 3rd generation detectors. At the UWA campus we undertake small scale experiments on optomechanics for beating the standard quantum limit of gravitational wave detectors.

We are looking for a dynamic experimentalist with motivation and drive, and relevant experience, who will enjoy working in a beautiful remote location adjacent to our Gravity Discovery Centre. The work will involve working closely with PhD students and technicians on experiments with high power suspended optical cavities.
