The thin film coatings group at the University of Strathclyde is seeking to recruit an experienced experimentalist to play a leading role in the exploitation of ECR (electron cyclotron resonance) ion beam deposition (IBD) for the fabrication of ultra-low loss mirror coatings for future gravitational wave detectors.
This project will involve a commercial partner in the UK (Gooch and Housego), to support the manufacture of next generation laser mirror coatings, and will be closely linked with the Institute for Gravitational Research at the University of Glasgow, and other LSC groups.
Further details will be posted shortly. The position is expected to start in Oct or Nov 2018, with funding secured for 3 years.
