The specific duties include research at the Institute of Laser Physics and teaching at the University of Hamburg. The research concerns laser experiments at temperatures below 100 mK and the responsible operation of a 3He-4He-dilution refrigerator.
In context of future gravitational-wave observatories, such as the Einstein telescope, the coupling between light and moving cryogenic mirrors and the efficient cooling of seismically decoupled mirrors will be investigated. The tasks include the responsible coordination and research in this area, development of new physics concepts, guidance and supervision of Master students and PhD students, publication of research results, independent acquisition of external funding, and participation in larger research projects (LIGO Scientific Collaboration, Collaborative Research Centers in planning and other projects).
