Post-doctoral position in the areas of gravitational waves, multi-messenger astrophysics, and/or time-domain astronomy at Texas Tech University
Deadline for application is October 1st 2019.
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Texas Tech University, in the areas of gravitational waves, multi-messenger astrophysics, and time-domain astronomy (with emphasis on supernovae and gamma-ray bursts).
The astrophysics group at Texas Tech includes faculty Alessandra Corsi, Tom Maccarone, Benjamin Owen, Joe Romano, and Simone Scaringi, as well as several students and postdocs. The group is active in the areas of extreme and explosive astrophysics, gravitational-wave data analysis and theory, accretion processes, and machine learning techniques for data analysis.
The successful applicant will work with Dr. Alessandra Corsi and will be encouraged to complement currently active observational programs and collaborations. Preference will be given to candidates working on one or more of the following areas: gravitational-wave data analysis, electromagnetic follow up of gravitational-wave triggers, theoretical modeling and/or observations of gamma-ray bursts and supernovae.
The initial appointment will be for one year with start date on or before 2020 Jan 1. Earlier start dates are preferred; later start dates may be considered. Extension to a second year is contingent on satisfactory performance and availability of funds. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, or related fields, and should submit a CV complete with bibliography, and a brief statement of research experience and interests by applying to the TTU position number 18589BR via the following link:
Candidates should also arrange for at least two letters of reference to be sent via email to the attention of Dr. Alessandra Corsi at alessandra.corsi(at)ttu.edu. Complete applications (including letters of reference) received by 2019 October 1 will receive full consideration; however, review will start immediately and continue until the position is filled.
